Junior High School

In Junior High School (SMP), we not only continue the foundation built in Elementary School, but we also strengthen it by building a solid bridge to a challenging future. We recognize that junior high school is a crucial period in students’ development, where they begin to explore their self-identity and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Therefore, we place a strong emphasis on developing critical thinking, effective problem-solving skills, and transformative leadership abilities. Our junior high school students are encouraged not only to receive information, but also to question, analyze, and create innovative solutions to various problems.

Yes, Darma Bangsa Junior High School has programs designed to build character and leadership. These programs include OFL and Camping. OFL, or Outdoor Fun Learning, aims to train and foster students’ character and leadership by conducting learning outside the classroom. Critical thinking about the surrounding environment is expected to become a strong character trait in students. The school strongly supports student activities outside of school hours as long as the activities are positive and contribute to building better character in students. One way the school provides support is by granting permission, providing recommendation letters if needed, and collaborating with parents. There is also the Peer Tutor-Based CATCH Program. This program involves students as tutors for their peers in mathematics learning. Through this role, students develop communication skills, empathy, and self-confidence, which are important aspects of interpersonal abilities.

Authentic Assessment and Self-Reflection: The school uses authentic assessment that evaluates hard skills through practical tasks and real-world projects. Meanwhile, soft skills such as collaboration, communication, and leadership are evaluated through observation, reflection journals, and peer assessment.

Project Strengthening of the Pancasila Student Profile (P5): The P5 program is designed to develop students’ character and competencies through activities relevant to the local context. This activity integrates soft skills such as leadership, empathy, and social responsibility with hard skills relevant to the project theme, such as information technology skills in a local cultural digitization project. Through P5, the school can assess how students apply both types of skills in real-world contexts.

Competency-Based Evaluation: The school implements competency-based evaluation that includes assessing students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Thus, the assessment not only focuses on academic results (hard skills) but also on the process and development of students’ character (soft skills). This is evidenced by the character report card at Darma Bangsa Junior High School.

Portfolio Development: Darma Bangsa Junior High School in Bandar Lampung supports the development of student portfolios that reflect both hard and soft skills through various programs and activities integrated into the curriculum and extracurricular activities. This portfolio can include documents, presentations, videos, and other works that demonstrate the development of students’ hard and soft skills during their studies. Students save these as attachments to assignments in Google Classroom.

Regular Reports: The school routinely provides reports on student progress to parents, covering aspects of academic grades, achievements, attitudes, and character development in the classroom. These reports are delivered periodically, allowing parents to monitor their child’s overall progress and development. Regular reports are given during the Parents Teaching Conference (PTC) after the Mid-Semester and Final Test.

Face-to-Face Meetings: In addition to written reports, the school also holds face-to-face meetings between teachers and parents, such as parent-teacher conferences or individual consultation sessions. These meetings provide an opportunity for parents to discuss their child’s academic and non-academic development directly with teachers, as well as to discuss joint strategies to support the student’s learning process. These meetings can be held at any time according to need.
